What should you consider before hanging items?

Your walls can withstand loads if you hang things safely and with proper preparation. Anchors play an important role in the weight that walls can hold. There are different types of anchors that are suitable for different applications.

Not only the weight of the object but also its shape and size determine the best method to hang it. Flat, small objects are easier to hang than those attached to the wall, due to the transparency and intensity.

Imagine this way when you place a picture frame that is small on the wall, it will rest directly on the wall. There should be no forward tilt, however, there will be some shear when the frame pulls back on the nail.

Since the frame for the picture is tiny and only pulling down, the nail will probably be able to hold the frame to the wall.

Imagine this nail trying to reach an object on the wall. The shelf does not only pull the clasp. of pulling inwards due to the fact that it is not flat like an image frame. The voltage is generated in the connector. The nail may come off the wall and the shelf may fall off.

Does that mean you can not put things on your wall? Of course not! All you need is the right kind of hanger for it.

The types of hanging devices available

There are a variety of hangers available, each with its own unique advantages and disadvantages. Let’s take a deeper look at the ways in which each is used, why it is or is not the best for a particular application and the best way to adjust each type of hanger.

Hanger type Advantages Disadvantages
The common nail Affordable and easy to use It’s easy to pull off, but it’s not very strong
Plastic anchors Easy to use, cheap Pre-drilled hole, objects that are light
Self-drilling screws You do not need to drill a hole before drilling. It creates a huge hole when it is removed
Molly bolt More weight is kept. Pre-drill / drill to use a hammer
Invert the toggle bolt The strongest, with the longest duration A larger hole in the wall is required.
With adhesive back No holes in the walls Easy to get out It can fail, especially for items that are light

What Cream?

Drywall anchors are made to secure items in its weight class. To choose the most suitable anchor, pay attention to how much the object you are hanging weighs.

If you are hanging a shelf or basket with items on it, be sure to add weight to the items when deciding on the type of anchor to use.

Larger items need more than one hanger that is evenly spaced. For example, a three-foot-wide mirror that weighs 90 pounds requires three self-tapping screws placed one foot apart or a tipping screw at each end.

For a quick report, get the chart.

Hanger type Preferred Weight
Plastic anchors up to 20 pounds.
Self-tapping screws up to 30 kg.
Molly bolt up to 70 kg.
Invert the toggle bolt up to 50 kg.
With adhesive back up to 50 kg.

Where do you hang it?

Think about the position of the object you are hanging. A hanger made of glue will not perform as well as a screw anchor mounted on a damp bathroom wall. Over time, moisture will seep into the adhesive strip that holds the hanger in place, degrading the adhesive, weakening its adhesion.

A shelf or shelf on which items are frequently removed and replaced will require more anchor points than shelves that are simply decorative. Any object that could be climbed or pulled by a child should be secured using the strongest bolts available at various anchor points.

Tools needed to install drywall

  • Tape ruler or measure
  • Pencil
  • Level
  • Hammer
  • Phillips screwdriver.

Some anchors require holes to be drilled in the wall. Check the manufacturer’s instructions on the box to find out the size of the drill you need.

Using plastic anchors

Plastic anchors are accessible at many retail stores. They are cheap and easy to use if you have the right tools. Plastic anchors are not as durable as other anchors, so they should not be used to support large or heavy objects.

Necessary items: Plastic anchors, measuring tape drill, level, screwdriver, hammer.

  • Use a tape measure and a scale to determine where you want to highlight the locations on your anchor.
  • Use an electric drill to make the hole of the recommended size (refer to the instructions on the box)
  • Use a hammer to hit your anchor against the wall.
  • Insert the screw point into the anchor, then be sure to tighten.
  • Adjust your item, then level it.

Use of self-drilling anchors

Self-drilling anchors are commonly used by home decorators to hang clocks and pictures. When the screws are tightened, the anchor flange expands, allowing it to be attached to the wall.

They can support much heavier objects, but eventually they will move away from the wall and create a huge gap that is placed with too much weight on them.

The required items are anchors for self-drilling tape measure and screwdriver, flat.

  • Use a tape measure and a tape measure to indicate where you want to mark the locations on the anchors. anchor (s).
  • Mount the anchor self-drilling on the wall.
  • Install the screw provided on the anchor, and then tighten it.
  • Place your object on the wall and then level it.

Using Molly Bolts

Molly bolts are used by contractors for commercial use. As with self-drilling anchors, the bolts are screwed on and the flange extending to the rear of the bolt is expanded to fit heavier objects.

A number of molly bolts in combination can be used to support heavier objects, such as wall mirrors or flat-screen TVs or shelves.

  • Note your locations on the anchor using a gauge and a level.
  • Use an electric drill to make the hole the size you need (refer to the instructions on the box)
  • Use a hammer to push your anchor against the wall.
  • Install the screw to the anchor, then be sure to tighten.
  • Adjust your item, then level it.

Use reversing toggle bolts

The toggle bolt, also known as the tipping bolt, is the most powerful of the anchors used for drywall. A long toggle bolt can be attached to a butterfly-shaped folding device. When installing the toggle bolt simply push both wings onto the latch and then mount it on the wall through the hole you have already drilled.

Required items Required materials: Overturn the measuring screw, drill, screwdriver.

  • Use a tape measure and a scale to determine where you want to highlight the locations at the anchors. anchor (s).
  • Use an electric drill to make the hole of the recommended size (see instructions on the package)
  • Make sure the wings are closed, and then insert the device into the hole you made.
  • The bolt must be tightened until the hanger rests against the wall.
  • Adjust your item, then level it.

Using self-adhesive hangers

In addition to the plasterboard anchors we discussed earlier, we also included adhesive hangers due to their popularity and ease of use.

The manufacturers say that these flexible adhesive fasteners can hold up to 75 pounds. However, this is not our experience. Although at first, the bond formed between the walls and the fasteners seems secure, it is likely to weaken over time and then the object will be thrown away.

These fasteners are ideal for hanging light items such as documents, calendars and photos.

  • Use a tape measure or a tape measure to indicate your position for the anchor.
  • Clean the area using alcohol and a clean cloth.
  • Allow the area to dry completely
  • Remove the protective cover from the tape.
  • Press the hanger firmly against the wall.

conclusion

The weight that the plasterboard will support depends on the anchor. The right drywall anchor allows you to hang beautiful and useful items around your home without worry. It is important to determine the right type of hanger for your needs and to install it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

If you hang heavy or large objects, hang them with several hangers at equal distances. Be sure to mark the level bar each time you use multiple anchors.

For best results, place one anchor on each side of an object that is large and another anchor in the middle when possible.
