Police have arrested four people on various charges, including manslaughter, including the illegal dumping of chemical waste, following the death of six workers at an industrial site in Surat due to toxic fumes coming from a tanker. An official gave this information on Saturday. In the Surat area on January 6, six workers died and another 22 were hospitalized due to toxic fumes from a chemical tanker stored near a factory. The incident took place in the Sachin Industrial Area and workers were at a dyehouse there at the time of the incident.
Two carriers, a bank clerk and a garage owner were among the four arrested on Friday, a crime branch official said. He said the Surat crime branch, with the help of Vadodara and Baruch police, had arrested the accused. The carrier and partner at a company, Ashish Gupta, had supplied industrial chemical waste to two other people, Jaipratap Tomar and Yadav, for disposal, the official said.
Another person, identified as Premsagar Gupta, was with Tomar and Yadav on the tanker guarded in the Sachin GIDC area, the official said. Tomar works in the financial department of a financial bank, while Yadav maintains a garage, the official said.
